Welcome to the Wilder Townhouse

Welcome to The Wilder Townhouse – Dublin’s Private Boutique Hotel

A secret to be stumbled upon, right in the heart of Dublin

Tucked away on one of Dublin’s prettiest residential streets, The Wilder Townhouse is a handsome red-brick retreat that blends rich character, residents-only exclusivity, and design-led charm. A proud member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Ireland’s Blue Book, and Mr & Mrs Smith, The Wilder Townhouse is Ireland’s only property to feature in all three prestigious collections — and with a One Michelin Key to its name, it’s no wonder that one stay is never enough.

Dating back to 1839, The Wilder Townhouse’s story  begins as a home for retired governesses and unmarried women, a detail that inspired its name — a playful nod to its spirited history.  Most recently, the building served as an artists’ studio.

In 2016, it was transformed by renowned Irish hoteliers Frankie and Jo Whelehan, reimagining the property through an Art Deco and contemporary city-club lens. The result? A design-forward townhouse of unserious sophistication. Subtle echoes to Dublin’s literary legacy  are never lost on bibliophile Wilder residents, as the property hosts an eclectic library and pays tribute to the Dublin 2 (D2) neighborhood’s eponymous famous wit, Oscar Wilde. More than a writer, Oscar Wilde is remembered in Dublin as a symbol of intellectual freedom, individuality, and creative defiance—qualities that align deeply with the spirit of The Wilder.

From its winsome façade to interiors filled with high ceilings, decorative cornices, silk ottomans, and dramatic Irish art, The Wilder Townhouse makes a strong first impression — and a lasting one.

But behind the beauty lies substance. Here, residents-only access  ensures a quiet, club-like feel. Whether relaxing with a book in a velvet armchair, sipping a craft gin by candlelight in the House of Hackney-papered Gin and Tea Rooms or enjoying excellent coffee in the botanical charm of the sun-filled Garden Room, you’ll feel worlds away from the busy hum of Dublin life outside.
